I have a PATH that is miles long, and I needed to find out where a certain application was launching from. On a good operating system, this kind of functionality is built in. :-) On a Windows operating system, you can create a BAT file, or download a utility.

Thanks, Raymond. I wasn't aware of that. I'm hearing a lot of good things about Vista SP1, so I may take the plunge and try it again.

What about DIR /S ??

I just typed "dir \dcc32.exe /s" from a non-root folder at the command prompt and it found it in Program Files\Borland\BDS\4.0\bin.

Do you need more than this provides? Type DIR /? for more options.

a) That is just a brute force scan of your entire hard drive. Not very quick.

b) If I had Delphi 6 through Delphi 2007 installed, I'd have like 5 copies of dcc32.exe installed. What I want to know, is which version of dcc32.exe would be launched if I just typed "dcc32.exe". The dir /s option wouldn't do that.

Ah, that's right. It's been a long time since I used whereis.
